  Tae Kwon Do
Warrior Angels Martial Arts ™ instruction of Tae Kwon Do is comprised of several activities. The general class format, which includes regular activities, is briefly summarized below. Other periodic activities are also described. Written and visual aids support the activities they do.
  REGULAR CLASS ACTIVITIES

Activity One ~ Etiquette
"Beginning With Respect & Honor"
Students line up in one line shoulder to shoulder in an attention stance. Then the instructor summarizes what they will learn. This prepares the students minds for instruction. They are then given leave to begin class in a traditional way by bowing to the instructor on command.
  Activity Two ~ Physical Conditioning
"Preparing For Work"
Students move into multiple lines as directed by the instructor for exercise and stretching to ready the body for instruction through physical conditioning.
  Activity Three ~ Learning Techniques
"Working Together"
Students are taught techniques and the basics of martial arts through an established curriculum, which includes ~
  • Stances
  • Punches
  • Strikes
  • Blocks
  • Kicks
  • Kata (pre-designed fighting forms)
  • Kumite (sparring/fighting)
  • Ukemi (rolling/falling)
  • Kubudo (weapons)
  • Self Defense
Techniques are performed repetitively through various drills. New techniques are added each week along with a review the prior week’s lessons.

Most regular class activities are done in unison. Students learn to stand, exercise and perform techniques in unison as well as count each movement together. They are required to learn to count, respond to commands, speak and recognize various techniques using Japanese terminology.

Each technique builds upon another and a student must be given a sufficient amount of time to learn and perform them with confidence before moving on to the next. How much a student learns, and the benefits derived there from, will depend upon their individual ability and the length of time they are in the program.

Intermediate and advanced students are trained in more advanced techniques.

Activity Four ~ Meditation and Breathing

"Touching the Inner Self"
Students are lead by the instructor, and participate in meditation and breathing at the end of the instructional period to relax the mind and body, and foster a sense of well being.

Activity Five ~ Etiquette

"Ending With Respect & Honor"
Class ends as it began. At close of class students line up in one line shoulder to shoulder in an attention stance. The instructor summarizes what they learned and what they should practice before returning to the next class. Students on occasion receive written homework assignments. They are then dismissed from class in a traditional way by bowing to the instructor on command.

PERIODIC CLASS ACTIVITIES

Activity Six ~ Review of Grades & Conduct
"A Measure of Success Part 1"
Grade and conduct reports from teachers and counselors for school age children are reviewed, along with behavior in martial arts class, and verbal reports from parents or guardians to determine if a student will be tested on martial arts techniques.

Grades are shared with the class along with any certificates of achievement or honor that students have received since the last marking period. Recognition is given to students who have made significant improvements.

Honor roll students are given a “gold star” to place on their uniform. If they maintain their honor roll status throughout the school year, they are given a special patch in recognition of their “excellence in education”.

Note: Adult report cards are also reviewed.

Activity Seven ~ Promotion Testing

"A Measure of Success Part 2"
Students are tested on the material mentioned in “Activity Three” above along with selected information included in their dojo manual.

Promotion requirements for each belt color are outlined in their manuals.

Activity Eight ~ Promotion Ceremony

"Celebrating Success"
Students are celebrated through a special ceremony that takes place. Students who pass their tests are promoted, awarded new belts, and also receive a certificate of rank.

Students who do not pass their test are encouraged not to give up, awarded a stripe on their belt with the color of the next level of belt as evidence that Shihan Beasley believes that they have what it takes to go to the next level with time and determination.

Class meets twice a week (one class required/ second class optional). Students are encouraged to practice a minimum of five days a week. Class time is training not practice.
